Maxim: So many books so little time Goal: Is to disprove it in and explain why.

Introduction

I’ve always been an avid reader. I would devour books in chunks and sink my teeth in them. If I could do nothing and read all day, I would do it. But growing up, I have been told that there are so many book yet so little time.

Intended meaning

I think the maxim means that we need to carefully choose what we read. To be strategic and selective when it comes to reading because there is just too many to choose from and we have a limited amount of time.

Discussion:

  • I use to believe in this. I would spend way too much time carefully choosing my next book.
  • But with time, I’ve come to realize that it is not true.
    • Reading should be for pleasure, I don’t want to spend time reading an important work or going through the top 100 books to read before you die and find something that I don’t necessarily enjoy. Now that I’ve come to terms with it, I’ll put down the book if I don’t like it.
      • Metaphor: Life is not a jail sentence.
      • If you don’t like a book, stop reading it. If you don’t like a movie, walk out.
    • Incorporate reading in your life
      • audiobooks while walking or doing chores
      • realize that I can get through more books while being productive

Conculsion

Instead, the maxim should encourage people to read books that they truly enjoy and I in turn encourage everyone here to read whatever book that interests and not to be worried about what other thinks of it.

Brain Storm

People asks what is your ideal literary dinner party? I would say mine is one that nobody is invited to: “My idea of a great literary dinner party is me, eating alone, reading a book.”

I read in order not to be in life. Reading is better than life. Without reading, you’re stuck with life.
