Standard Form

Definition: A complex number in standard form iss an expression of the form $x+yj$ where $x,y\in R$ and $j$ satisfies $j^2=-1$. The set of all complex numbers is denoted by $C=x+yj\mid x,y\in R$

Real and Imaginary

In complex analysis, the complex numbers are customarily represented by the symbol $z$, which can be separated into its real $(x)$ and imaginary $(y)$ parts:

$$z=x+iy$$
