Misophonia

A disorder in which certain sounds trigger emotional or physiological responses that some might perceive as unreasonable given the circumstance.

I think I suffer from misohponia. Well there are a lot of proves and I don’t understand how other people can ignore those sounds.

First of all, I live with a roommate that FUCKING coughs every three seconds. And it drives me nuts. I feel mad, angry, annoyed, unable to focus on anything else then for it to stop and want to fucking punch a wall and scream, do I even need to go on… As I’m writing right now Feb26, 2024 at 1 am, she is coughing constantly and I’m this close to… I just came back from reading week and reading a book that mentioned this called Die Around Sundown. In this book the author finally put to words what this thing that has been bothering me my whole life into words and the protagonist suffers from it too.

From wikipedia

Reactions to trigger sounds range from annoyance to anger, with possible activation of the fight-or-flight response. Misophonia responses do not seem to be elicited by the loudness of the sound, but rather by its specific pattern or meaning to the hearer. Triggers are commonly repetitive stimuli and are primarily, but not exclusively, related to the human body, such as chewing, eating, smacking lips, slurping, coughing, throat clearing, sniffing, and swallowing. Once a trigger stimulus is detected, people with misophonia may have difficulty distracting themselves from the stimulus and may experience suffering, distress, and/or impairment in social, occupational, or academic functioning.

This paragraph perfectly describes it. THE FUCKING COUGHING. PLEASE END ME.

I don’t want to room with her but don’t know how to tell it to her face. To stop. coughing. for. the. life. of. me.
